A Tribute to Christopher Horton

Former students and friends of the late Christopher N. Horton, professor emeritus of experimental studio at the Hartford Art School, have been displaying their work at the Silpe Gallery in a tribute to their former teacher.

The exhibition, titled Christopher Horton: Tribute Exhibition, includes the work of 30 artists and will continue through Wednesday, Sept. 14.

A reception will take place at the Silpe Gallery on Friday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. The gallery is located at the Hartford Art School.

Some artwork will be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Christopher Horton Scholarship Fund. Participating artists include Peter Waite BFA ’72, Timothy Hochstetter BFA ’92, Laurann Szpak BFA ’86, and Peter McLean, retired professor of the Hartford Art School.

Horton, who retired in 1999 after 30 years of teaching, died on Jan. 1, 2005, at the age of 68. Horton was known for his devotion and dedication to his students, and in 1997, he received the university’s Roy E. Larsen Award for Excellence in Teaching.
